BROOKS & DUNN will go their separate ways after their Last Rodeo tour ends in August, so a ton of country"s biggest stars got together last month after the ACM Awards in Las Vegas to tape the new CBS special ACM Presents: Brooks & Dunn -- The Last Rodeo. Superstars such as KEITH URBAN, KENNY CHESNEY, BRAD PAISLEY and TAYLOR SWIFT sang the duo"s biggest hits as KIX and RONNIE sat on the side of the stage and took it all in. Before the show, Ronnie Dunn said there was one star in particular he was looking forward to seeing. "I can"t wait to see what GEORGE STRAIT does," he says.
George ended up singing one of Brooks & Dunn"s biggest hits, "Boot Scootin" Boogie." He says, "I just love it, except for that one part I can"t sing." George is referring to that really high falsetto part Ronnie sings at the end of the word "boogie" on the chorus.
DARIUS RUCKER wanted to sing "My Maria" on the show, but he also had trouble mastering Ronnie"s high vocal part on that tune. Darius went with "Hard Workin" Man" instead. He said before the show started, "It"s gonna rock."
LADY ANTEBELLUM also performs on the tribute, and they hope their career will be as successful and last as long as Brooks & Dunn"s. Band member CHARLES KELLEY says, "We wanna be doing what Brooks & Dunn are doing right now. 20 years from now having to go, "Guys, we need to take a break." That would be nice."
TIM McGRAW jokes that Brooks & Dunn should have split long before now, saying, "It"s about time. I mean, look how old they are. Come on!" Tim performs "That Ain"t No Way to Go" on Sunday night"s show, and his wife FAITH HILL sings "The Long Goodbye." She recalled her time touring with BROOKS & DUNN way back in 1994 and calls their break-up "bittersweet."
Brooks & Dunn did several tours with REBA over the years, and they"re set to sing "Cowgirls Don"t Cry" with her on CBS" Late Show with David Letterman Friday night. She also performs "Indian Summer" on the Last Rodeo special. Ronnie calls her a "good friend....She"s the first person to put us on tour and give us a job," adding, "It"s come a long way since then. She was a big part of that."
MIRANDA LAMBERT, JASON ALDEAN, SUGARLAND and RASCAL FLATTS also perform Brooks & Dunn songs on Sunday night"s show. Oscar-winner JENNIFER HUDSON brings down the house with a stirring rendition of "Believe."
