While possessing a stylistically distinct sound, Hisaishi's music has been known to explore and incorporate different genres, including minimalist, experimental, electronic, European classical, and Japanese classical. 
Joe Hisaishi is best known for his work with animator Hayao Miyazaki (Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, Porco Rosso, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away (2001), etc.) and director Takeshi Kitano (Dolls, Kikujiro, Hana-bi, Sonatine, etc.)

"The Universe Within II - The Human Brain & Mind" was a 1993 documentary series broadcast by Japanese tv NHK.
