Post Description
After forming in the summer of 2008, 2013’s With Perfect Aim marks Barricades’ first full-length release. For the past half of a decade, the group has made its mark throughout the Northeast region. Armed with a sound that meshes the likes of Brand New, Thieves and Villains, and Mayday Parade into one, Barricades find a clever balance between melodic indie rock and pop-punk.
Whether it’s an upbeat dancealong (“Mannequin,” “On the Shelf”), a slower ballad (“Stay,” “Ghosts”), or somewhere in between (“Sunset,” “Lost”), the group doesn’t seem to misfire. The use of synth added into what are already pretty decent pop songs lends an extra element to the tracks, which, in turn, also makes their absence harder felt later on during slower, more somber songs.
You couldn’t ask for much more out of a debut album from a relatively young band – solid vocals with impressive range, lyrics worth learning in choruses worth singing, and crisp instrumentals throughout. Barricades have made it a point to create a sound and style that fits them, and with their new record, they have their sights set on broader horizons.
