Star(s) Fleetwood Mac

Standard Screen; Soundtrack English
Classic rock band Fleetwood Mac are literally one of the most successful rock acts of all time. Their 1977 album RUMOURS not only won the Grammy for "Album of the Year," it has also sold more that 25 million copies and remains one of the quintessential albums of the 1970's. TANGO IN THE NIGHT, the video companion to their 1987 album, was filmed at San Francisco's Cow Palace. After several years of turmoil and hiatuses, the album and tour marked a stellar return to form for the band.

Although some prefer the post-1987 Fleetwood Mac shows, without the combined magic of the Buckingham-Nicks lineup, the tunes seem lacking. Rick Vito and Billy Burnette, while both amazing guitarists, seem emotionless while playing the classic Mac tunes. They seem a little too stiff and come across without much enthusiasm. Maybe that's due to the huge shoes they had to fill when Lindsey Buckingham walked away from the 1987 tour.

Rick Vito does a great job on "Dreams", and Christine's "Isn't it Midnight" is a great tune laced with guitar soloing. Again, the tunes seem a little less than punchy, but the crowd altogether seems to enjoy them. It's almost as if no one noticed the absence of Buckingham. Especially the lack of Buckingham & Nicks' stage melodrama; those dueling vocals and intense stares full of that hate/love thing.

Overall, it's a pretty decent show. It isn't one that you'll be watching once a week, but it's worth a viewing.
