Amazing Spider-man 401-420 (v1)
Spider-Man first appeared in the comic book Amazing Fantasy #15 (Aug. 1962). The series was cancelled with that issue, but response to the character was so positive that a solo title, The Amazing Spider-Man, was launched with a March 1963 cover-date.
The character was created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist and co-plotter Steve Ditko, and the pair produced 38 issues from 1963 to 1966. Ditko left after the 38th issue, while Lee continued as writer until the 100th issue. Since then, many writers and artists have taken over the monthly comic through the years, chronicling the adventures of Marvel's most identifiable hero.
The Amazing Spider-Man is the character's flagship series. It was the sole monthly series devoted only to Spider-Man until December 1976 when Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man was introduced. Many titles have since come and gone, often with several monthly series released on different weeks of the month, and sharing the character's primary storyline. Amazing, however, has continued regularly, almost without exception, ever since 1963. In November 1998, Marvel Comics ended the first run of Amazing with issue #441. Two months later, the series was rebooted with a new issue #1 (Jan. 1999); But on Spider-Man's 40th anniversary, In December 2003, what would have been issue #59 of the new series was numbered #500 (as if numbering had never rebooted). Beginning with issue #546 (Jan. 2008), in place of three monthly series, The Amazing Spider-Man began publishing three times per month.
