Details:
In August 2006, WDR German TV broadcast about 10 hours of German rock archives,
during two special night programs called "Die Deutschrock-Nacht" 1 & 2. These shows
were originally torrented as 6 DVDs at The Traders Den, by "chbeud". Since I am a big
fan of Tangerine Dream (at least the period from their early years to 1987), I decided
to do a personal DVD compiling the 6 Tangerine Dream clips shown during these 2006 WDR-TV
specials.
One of the clips shown on WDR-TV, titled "Barock 3", was actually taken from a 1976 documentary
about Tangerine Dream, "Signale aus der schwäbischen Strasse", originally broadcast on 23May76
by SFB-TV. Since I had a master copy of that documentary on the "Tangerine Dream - Digital Video
Tree Volume 25", I decided to use the two other instrumentals included in the documentary, which
I guess can be logically called "Barock 1" and "Barock 2".
This compilation was done without re-encoding the original video, so there is no loss of video
quality comparing to the original "Deutschrock-Nacht" DVDs torrented by "chbeud" in 2006 and
the "TD Digital Video Tree Vol.25" DVD. The only thing that I did is some editing and level
adjusting on the audio tracks, in order to ensure a consistent listening throughout the DVD.
Tracks 2 to 6 are important documents of Tangerine Dream"s "classic" line-up, composed of Edgar
Froese, Chris Franke and Peter Baumann. Interestingly, the 1971 tracks show the musicians still
playing their original instruments (Froese on guitar, Baumann on keyboards and Franke on drums),
while the 3 "Barock" tracks from 1976, although performed by the same guys, show that through the
years, keyboards have become the main instruments in TD"s music.
Note that the "Ricochet 1" title can be misleading: actually, this track has nothing to do with
the music released in 1975 on the "Ricochet" album. ;-) "Madchen Auf Der Treppe" is the alternative
German title for the beautiful piece of music also known as "White Eagle".
