JSC Nr262 Letha, Torpedo, 98M, Triglav and U-5 U-Boat
model card
SMS Maros and SMS Leitha (1871) were armorclad ships and River Monitors of the Austro-Hungarian Navy.
The SM TB 98 M was a destroyer.
In December 1915 the Austro-Hungarian Navy sent another cruiser Squadron into the Adriatic, this time to interfere with the Serbian Campaign. The new light cruiser Helgoland accompanied by five Tatra-class destroyers left Cattaro and headed for Durazzo late on 28 December, with the submarine U-15 on patrol off Durazzo. While on passage, they sighted the French submarine Monge on patrol to the south of Cattaro. Destroyer Balaton opened fire before ramming and sinking the Monge.
Early the next day the Austrian squadron arrived off Durazzo and opened fire on the town, with Helgoland sinking a Greek steamer. Then the destroyer Lika ran into a minefield and was sunk, then Triglav was badly damaged by another mine. Csepel attempted to take Triglav in tow, but fouled a propeller, and the job was taken over by Tatra. The crippled Austrian force now returned slowly north.
SM U-5 (Germany), was the lead ship of the Type U 5 class of submarines; launched in 1910 and served in the First World War until sunk on 18 December 1914
During the First World War, Germany also had these submarines with similar names:
SM UB-5, a Type UB I submarine launched in 1915 and broken up in 1919
SM UC-5, a Type UC I submarine launched in 1915 and grounded on 27 April 1916; the scuttling charges did not go off and the submarine was captured and displayed in London and New York for propaganda purposes
