Ficcion biography
This 5-piece set from Venezuela were formed in 1976 by dissident members of ADITUS, a BRAND X and MAHAVISHNU type of band also from Venezuela. They drew their influences mainly from ELP although the keyboard player and drummer were evidently CAMEL and GENESIS fans. Touring extensively for a decade, they shared the stage with Joe Cocker, among others, before their only album "Sobre El Abismo" was released in 1986. In the meantime, Musea has reissued it on CD with three bonus tracks of brand new material, performed by the original cast with the help of a guest vocalist and drummer. The band has also recently contributed on a PINK FLOYD tribute.

"Sobre El Abismo" is a rich blend of 70's symphonic prog with a pleasant Latin touch - think salsa-flavoured ELP, sun-baked YES or GOBLIN without the horror. Highly keyboard driven, the album doesn't feature any guitar but still manages to be relatively upbeat, featuring interesting synth bass and snappy Farfisa organ riffs, cleverly mixing tranquil symphonic prog with tinges of jazz rock. The only weak point is the rather flat lyrics (sung in Spanish).

Nothing particularly ground breaking but fans of SAGRADO, TEMPANO and (to a lesser extent) Rigel Michelena may feel at home with FICCIÓN.
