De Straks formed in Delft in the late 1970's, in 1980 they released their first EP called 'Vrij onverteerd' ('Pretty Undigested') on their own label called Strakkies records. On this they changed their bandname to V.H. de Straks (formerly de Straks) because of troubles with an anarchist newspaper with the same name. But not only their bandname changed, on their first record they played really raw punk with lyrics against the Dutch queen but on this record they play really melodic and poppy punk with lyrics about how the politicians do everything in their own interest. The record title translates to 'Greetings From the Free World' and refers to a US initiative sending people in Communist countries postcards saying "Greetings From the Free World". This isn't a really bad record but it definitely isn't as great as their first EP. -LEON OLSTHOORN
