De Amerikaanse componist Philip Glass (1937) is grondlegger van het genre Mimimal Music en schreef baanbrekende muziek. Deze box bestaat uit een compilatie van zijn belangrijkste werken uit de jaren tachtig. Zijn solo pianowerk, opera's en ensemblewerken zoals Glassworks, Einstein on the beach en Naqoyqatsi.
Om het beeld compleet te maken bevat de box ook de dvd A Portrait of Glass in twelve parts. Deze documentaire uit 2007 schetst een intiem portret en is een onderzoek naar de creatieve aanpak van de hedendaagse componist, afgewisseld met scènes over zijn spirituele en persoonlijke leven.
