Over nearly a half century, Stephen Stills has released more than 250 songs as a solo artist, as part of Buffalo Springfield and Manassas and in legendary bands with David Crosby, Graham Nash and Neil Young.
This week, the cream of that deep catalog arrives on Carry On (Rhino, $55), a four-CD box set that traces Stills' career in 82 tracks, 25 of which are previously unreleased. It includes a 113-page book with rare photos and liner notes by Michael O'Hara Garcia, David Bender and Daniel Levitin.
Produced by Stills in collaboration with Nash and Joel Bernstein, Carry On contains more than five hours of music and finds the singer/songwriter exploring folk, rock, blues, jazz, country and Latin across five decades in a mostly chronological anthology. 
The set opens with the oldest track, previously unreleased Travelin', which Stills recorded at 17 in Costa Rica. The most recent entry is a live cut, Girl from the North Country, recorded by Crosby, Stills & Nash a few months ago during a sold-out run at New York's Beacon Theater.
Love the One You're With, For What It's Worth, Suite: Judy Blue Eyes and other classics are here, along with such newly issued gems as No-Name Jam, a 1970 recording of Stills and Jimi Hendrix playing guitar together, and Black Coral, a song first released as a duo with Young and here presented by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.
Other previously unreleased tunes: 1984's Welfare Blues, 1973's Little Miss Bright Eyes, 1968's Who Ran Away? and an early version of The Treasure.
Everydays, 4+20, See the Changes, Change Partners (with Jerry Garcia on pedal steel guitar) and others have been freshly remixed. Stills' performance of Cuba Al Fin at the 1979 Havana Jam has been newly edited.
