Post Description
A collection of Trojan 12 inches, which means original songs extended with the dubs (or dj-versions, in some cases).
disc one (early to mid seventies) is not exceptionally good, but there are some gems on it like Bob Marley's "Small Axe", Horace Andy's "Materialist" and Michael Rose "Clap The Barber" (an early version of Guess Who's Coming To Dinner)
disc two is great from beginning to end: it's all from the 1977-1978 "golden era of roots" and also the golden era of dub. "I'm Still In Love With You" (you probably know it as the Sean Paul hit song), the somewhat sinsiter sounding "Never Be Ungrateful" by Gregory Isaacs; Lee Perry's great Black Ark cut "Bionic Rats", "Born Free" by Michael Rose (early version of Black Uhuru's Willow Tree) and the nice "Ting A Ling" by Jah Thomas. The second disc is the reason I give this box four stars, because it is really cool.
Disc three (late seventies, early eighties) is again somewhat mediocre, although there are some crucial tracks on it like Dennis Brown's "Money In My Pocket", which is extended with a crazy dj take on the riddim by George Nooks (then known as Prince Mohammed), the original and emotional "Caution" by Sowell Radics; "Kouchi Vibes" by the Mighty Diamonds which is an eight minute dub take on "Pass The Kuchie"...
This box could have been better, a lot of the riddims on disc one and three are not "hard" enough, which doesn't make them really suitable for a hypnotic 12 inch experience, but disc 2 is one of the best "showcase" compilations out there.
