Another great performance immortalised for posterity.
Unlike Shotgun Symphony, Strangeways are a delicacy I never got to sample in a live setting before, and before events conspired against me, were one of the main highlights of the Firefest 2010 weekend I was looking forward to. Back together with American born singer Terry Brock for the first time in more than 20 years, my first reaction to 'Where Do We Go From Here?' was one of surprise at just how powerful the band actually sounded on stage.
On the downside their ten song set is all too brief – although the track listing itself (filled with a mixture of new songs and classics lifted from the sublime 'Native Sons/Walk In The Fire' period) does offer a timely reminder of just why the band are considered to be one of the greatest UK based AOR exponents of all time. Their performance, whilst engaging, isn't quite as polished as that of Shotgun Symphony, but with tracks like 'Borderlines', 'Love Lies Dying' and 'Only A Fool' the content is just as strong. I wasn't totally sold on the new studio album when it came out, but tracks like 'Perfect World' slot into the set rather well – hell, even the brooding 'Bushfires' (always more Zeppelin than Strangeways) seemed an inspired choice as set closer!
