Maurice White (R.I.P), de oprichter en leider van de band Earth, Wind & Fire, is overleden op 74-jarige leeftijd. 
Hij leed lange tijd aan de ziekte van Parkinson. Hij kon door zijn aandoening al vanaf 1994 niet meer mee met optredens van de band, maar hij bleef buiten het podium nog wel betrokken.
White richtte de band in de jaren zestig op. De groep verkocht wereldwijd meer dan negentig miljoen albums. White was zowel zanger als schrijver en producer van zijn band.
