Al vanaf 1968 is de Oscar Benton Blues Band een begrip in de Nederlandse blueswereld. Tot aan 1971 bracht de band 3 lp"s uit, Feel So Good ("68), The Blues Is Gonna Wreck My Live (69) en Benton 71 ("71) In 1972 volgde Draggin" Round, maar de band bestond toen uit ex-leden van de Bintangs. De originele bandleden vormden in 1974 het nog immer populaire Barrelhouse.
In 1975 richtte Oscar wederom met enkele ex-leden van de Bintangs The Blue Eyed Blues Band op. De band nam de LP Blue Eyed Baby op en Oscar noemde zich hier Billy Boy Bishop.
In 1981 scoorde Oscar een wereldhit met de single Bensonhurst Blues, gebruikt als sound track voor de film "Pour La Peau d"un Flic" van Alain Delon.
