RADIO CAROLINE - THE 80s PART 3 When a hurricane swept across Southern England in 1987, many radio stations were knocked off the air, but Caroline continued as one of the few broadcasting. The mast structure had however been weakened, and in more storms a few months later, Caroline’s 300 foot antenna mast came crashing down. With her usual tenacity and magic, and using pipework that had been used for cod liver oil processing in the ships days as a fishing trawler, Caroline was soon back on air – albeit smelling like a fish and chip shop - with a temporary aerial. New mast sections were delivered to the Ross Revenge, and a long period of mast building began. Easter 1989 saw Radio Caroline celebrate her 25th birthday. The British and Dutch authorities didn’t join the celebrations, as they were planning much darker deeds. This DVD is the third part of a set looking at Radio Caroline in the 1980’s.
