What happens if you put members of Exodus, Slayer in a rehearsal room together with members of Destruction, Sodom and Kreator? You probably would get the kind of thrash Godslave is serving us. They mix the German 80's thrash with the 80's Bay Area thrash and that with a modern production. They remind me a bit of the current thrash band Warbringer. At least they have the same impact on me.
Naturally the music is not original, but how can you still be that in this genre? Singer Thommy sounds at times like Schmier, but uses a more aggressive and lower throat too. The music is played very tight and the thrash riffs follow one another like sperm on its way to the womb. That this is not just a 13 a dozen thrash band, which can be concluded by the fact that some known musicians in the genre have contributed a few parts. In "Thrashed" and "Scholar Eclipse" we find Mike Sifringer (Destruction) with a solo, in "Into the Black" the lead vocals are done by Gerrit P. Mutz (Sacred Steel) and Benedikt Zimniak (Mekong Delta) contributes with a solo in the track "A Shot in the Dark".
No idea whether or not this band will become as popular as all the other current new thrash bands like Gama Bomb, Evile, Warbringer and Lazarus A.D., but they certainly play on the same level. With the right support and playing some summer festivals they will certainly be appreciated in their home country and perhaps the rest of Europe will follow.
Thrash how it was meant to be!
Lekker stevige duitse thrash.
