Thom Chacon sinks into the stories, tales like “A Better Life” a conversation traded between two strangers sitting together on bar stools as memories surface on “Kenneth Avenue” and local weather gets reported with “Monsoon Rain”. The cuts on Marigolds and Ghosts are staged as individual acts, Thom Chacon the storyteller giving each detail its own spotlight.
 
Based in Colorado, the joy and comfort Thom Chacon finds in his surroundings is sung with devotion for “Church of the Great Outdoors”, mixing dark melodies to stir the melodrama of “Borderland”, making a lasting legend of “Florence John”, and spelling out the steps he takes through life with “Sorrow”. Marigolds and Ghosts shares stories of unknown characters whose decisions and lives feel familiar, beginning the song cycle with the title track seeing the world pass by as Thom Chacon closes out the album urging “Angel Eyes” to ride on.
