Biography
Broken Home was formed in 1979, fronted by lead singer, guitarist and songwriter Dicken. Dicken and bass player Pete Crowther had already tasted UK chart success as members of Mr. Big, who had scored a UK Top 5 hit with Romeo in 1977.
After the demise of Mr. Big in 1978, Dicken and Crowther re-grouped, recruiting guitarist Rory Wilson and drummer Pete Barnacle into their new venture, Broken Home. Their debut album was recorded in 1980 with producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange and simply entitled Broken Home. Three singles were taken from the album: "Death of Gog", "No Chance", and "Run Away From Home". Although the singles picked up radio airplay in the UK, chart success eluded the band.
Broken Home's live career was short-lived, effectively terminating after an appearance at Reading Festival in 1980 with the departure of Wilson and Barnacle. Dicken and Crowther continued recording as Broken Home, recording one further album in 1981, Life, which was released by Mercury Records in 1981/82 in various European countries, although notably not in Britain. Life reached the Top 30 in Norway in September 2002, though ironically the remaining band members were oblivious to their Scandinavian success and had already ceased working together by that time. A single, "Oh Yeah", was taken from the album and released in Europe. A remixed version of "Oh Yeah" was issued as a solo single by Dicken a year or two later.
