Biography Taurus
Haarlem symphonic rock band, in the early eighties a good live reputation and a fanatical group of supporters, but without commercial success record.
1977
Taurus founded, Scheffer and Spierenburg are already present. The rhythm section consists of Piet Traanberg on bass and Dennis Plantinga on drums. The first years were spent in the rehearsal room.
1979
Taurus in 1979 In February, the band begins a tour. In November takes Theo de Jong (ex-Kayak) the place of Piet Traanberg. This, however, left the group in December again, to join Scope themselves. In turn, he is replaced by Jos Schild.

In April, they sign a contract with Phonogram, on August 1 shows the first single Meadow / Discovered. It is not a hit, but the plate is rotated to 45 times in five weeks. It continues to rumble in the rhythm section. In September, is drummer Dennis Plantinga place for Rex Stulp (ex Icc).
1981
Taurus signs a contract with CBS and in May the first album Illusions Of A Night. Partly because of this record, where disc jockey Wim van Putten of Tros radio considerable attention to, they build a solid audience. This record they eventually sell 4,000 units. Kees Wassenaar replaces Rex Stulp in September. Martin Scheffer makes some time a member of the Hague symphonic rock band Plackband.

1983
Taurus brings the second album Tapes live-in house. The plate consists of live recordings from 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1982. Despite the airplay of Wim van Putten are only sold a few hundred copies. Taurus goes apart. John Philippo sings in the Kayak-splitting Europe.

1985
Rob Spierenburg works as a composer. He writes music for several documentaries and commercials, and the Dutch finals of the Eurovision Song Contest that year. The band Europe, with singer John Philippo is unsuccessful. Philippo, Spierenburg, Van Eijk, Shell and Plantenga pick up the thread again. Taurus appears the single So Long Christi-Ann / Friends For Life.
1986
On July 3, just before the recording of the successor of the single So Long Christi-Ann comes guitarist Willem van Eijk in a car accident. I am unable to find a successor for Van Eijk and as also ceases to exist AAR label to be canceled shooting the next single. Taurus will continue to exist.
1989
Illusions Of A Night in Japan is reissued on CD. This proves to be a success and there is immediate demand for more. Spierenburg, Scheffer and Traanberg take a title Works old stuff again. If they want to continue under the name Taurus stabbing current members Shield and Philippo to prevent this by officially registering the name Taurus. Despite Works 1976-1981 appears a year later.
1991
Spike Wolters from Leiden eventually the replacement of guitarist Willem van Eijk.
1992
Spierenburg takes his first solo album, entitled Let's Call It A Day. This can also be heard Martin Scheffer. Roy Darman becomes the new drummer.
1993
Taurus brings a new live CD from: See You Again. This year dies Piet Traanberg, bassist of the first Taurus occupation.
1994
A new studio album titled On A Journey appears. This is all done under the direction of Jos Shield, involving John Philippo and Rob Spierenburg. Dennis Plantenga and Kees Wassenaar again be heard on this CD. Martin Scheffer here is the great absentee. Wolters guitarist left the band because he did not want to promote live CD. The tour is, for lack of a replacement not.
1995
Spierenburg's second solo album appears: K2: An Instrumental Expedition. This is the soundtrack of the documentary that was made on the occasion of the ascent of K2 by Ronald Naar. There are also plans for two new Taurus albums.
1999
The compilation album Evolution is a compilation of previously unreleased versions of songs from the period 1979-1994. Most recordings are previously unreleased on record or CD. The record will be released in the Netherlands, Japan, Germany and France.
2000
Spierenburg makes all jingles and tunes Best of the Netherlands, a television project that is compiled programming since 1996, the television offer of the Dutch and Flemish public broadcasters, NPO, VRT and Worldwide. May 21 John Philippo dies from complications of a hospital operation. There are nine songs selected and recorded for a new album. Necessitated by the tragic circumstances affect the completion of the album coming.
