The gameplay is an improvement but it certainly falls short of realistic, focusing mostly on game play in my personal opinion the game both surpassed my expectations and casts a shadow of arcade throughout, In one hand the game is much more responsive passing feels rewarding and authentic, you can approach each game differently, on the other hand some old annoyances are still present, old animations along new AI shortcomings, in terms of game play I find that in most games the AI attacks you in a similar way, tiki taka onetime passing with ease all the way to your box, looking for the frustrating over powered cross or long ball, transitions are way too fast making most possessions feel like a never ending counter attack, if and when you get caught with the 90% accurate long ball the already bad defenders are left at odds in transition, too often the cross or long ball find their intended man open and you find your self on a foot race. A defender attempting to control a ball in the box after a cross rather than to clear it to Everest (as you intended) is not a rare sighting, and that's just one example of a defenseman surprising you. Goalkeepers also have their glorious moments ranging from unbelievable saves to utter incompetence. Passing feels great however controlling the ball and first touch are not factors at all and I'm left to wonder how fundamental mechanics of the real sport are still missing, one time passing is a given which the AI utilizes in perfection, something the game is clearly tailored to favor, it rewards you for playing that way. A first time pass with urgency is no easy task in the real world let alone something any player can execute on the run I might add. As enjoyable as the attacking game is a more tactical approach would be unmatched, for example a classy ball trap in the dying moments of a game taking a few steps to set up and look for an open man would go a long way, if the AI was made to apply such simple game fundamentals that is, slowing down to build is essential to the core experience, not just a constant array of one time passes and one twos. Those clear inconsistent game flaws are keeping the game from greatness, the AI could and should definitely have an error factor when receiving-controlling-passing the ball, where ball movement opposition presence and other factors are taken into account, alongside what you get when users play with manual controls, a hardcore realistic mode if you will, approaching build up play more tactically. Overall the game is fun to play, more refined and responsive, faces and player models look better and the new add a kit addition is wonderful, thanks to the opinion file support licensing isn't an issue anymore, except on Xbox, sadly the AIs glaring issues presentation-outdated menus and online play hold the game back. With a patch addressing the AI this game could be a must for any football enthusiast, on the bright side the series is heading in the right direction.
