Dufner gets due rewards in New Orleans
29 APR 2012
Jason Dufner has broken through for a long awaited but well deserved victory at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, a birdie at the second extra hole of a playoff between he and Ernie Els, the tiebreaker.
Dufner missed a putt at the 72nd hole from ten feet that would have sealed the event then and there but although he three putted the first extra hole for par he was given a second chance by Els who missed his birdie chance from 12 feet or so and the event went back to the 18th tee.
Dufner found the green with his approach at the par five and having just hit the same putt ten minutes earlier he knew what he had to do to get his 60 foot eagle putt to the hole. He finished two feet past and when Els missed his birdie from 12 feet, the stage and the title was Dufner's.
Dufner has been on the PGA Tour off and on since 2004 but rose to fame when defeated in another playoff by Keegan Bradley at the PGA Championship last August. He has continued to play well and this was a very deserving victory for 35 year old whose winner's cheque will be welcome given he is getting married next weekend to his fiancée Amanda.
