Synopsis:

It is a 1989 Hong Kong action film directed and written by Jackie Chan, who also plays the lead role and worked as stunt co-ordinator. The film is set in 1930s Hong Kong and is a variation of Frank Capra's Lady for a Day and Pocketful of Miracles,[1] which in turn were based on "Madame La Gimp", a short story by Damon Runyon. The movie was remade in Hindi as Singh Is Kinng with Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif.
Miracles features many well-known Hong Kong actors, including Anita Mui and Wu Ma, and is considered one of Jackie Chan's most sophisticated directorial efforts. Chan is an ardent fan of Hollywood musicals, and Miracles pays tribute to that genre. [2] According to his autobiography, Chan stated that this was the favourite film he has made.
Jackie Chan's Hong Kong variation of Frank Capra's "A Pocketful of Miracles" set in the 1930s. Jackie plays a country boy who rescues a gang boss. Jackie becomes the head of a gang through the purchase of some lucky roses from an old lady. Jackie and a singer at the gang's nightclub try to do a good deed for the old rose-seller when her daughter comes to visit, all this while battling a rival gang.

Inhoud:

Wanneer de naïeve Cheng een gangsterbaas van de dood redt, wordt hij tegen wil en dank opgenomen in de gevaarlijke onderwereld van Hong Kong. Door een serie 'miraculeuze' gebeurtenissen vindt Cheng zijn grote liefde en klimt hij naar de top van het gangsterimperium. Als gangsterbaas gaat Cheng, tot grote verbazing van zijn collega-boeven, te werk volgens het motto 'Wie goed doet, goed ontmoet'. Maar helaas laat een rivaliserende bende zich niet met goede daden wegjagen.
