Volume I considers shipbuilding in the Mediterranean and Europe from antiquity through the 17th century, with descriptions of specific vessel types. Volume II is wholly illustrative and shows vessels, plans and equipment of the Mediterranean and Europe from antiquity through the 19th century. Volume III is composed entirely of beautiful color lithograph plates of ships from the 13th - 19th centuries.
