Status Quo - famous in the last century
Famous In The Last Century features covers of songs that were famous in the last century, originally recorded by artists that were famous in the last century.
The album was released on Universal Music TV on April 17th, 2000:
CD: 157 8142 Cassette: 157 8144
On April 30th 2000, the BBC showed a television documentary about Quo then and now, including interviews with former members of the band, some footage of the band working in the studio and at home, live concert footage, and tracks from the new album.
Quo played a one off show in Shepherds Bush, London on Monday, March 27 at which a full playback performance of the new LP was filmed, for release as a video and DVD.
Famous In The Last Century was recorded at Arsis Studios and Astoria Studios in London. Engineered by Chris West, and produced by Mike Paxman. Unlike the Don't Stop album, this collection of covers does not feature any special guests, it's a Quo party album with fifteen classic songs and one new Quo original:
1. FAMOUS IN THE LAST CENTURY
A New song written by Andrew Bown, that kicks off the set and sets the scene.
2. OLD TIME ROCK AND ROLL
A rocking cover of the old Bob Segar classic, from the song originally written by Jackson/Jones.
3. WAY DOWN
Written by Layng Martine Jr (who?) and recorded by Elvis Presley.
4. ROLL OVER BEETHOVEN
The old Chuck Berry classic, given a solid Quo treatment.
5. WHEN I'M DEAD AND GONE
Written by Gallagher/Lyle, and a hit for McGuinness Flint in 1970.
6. MONY MONY
Originally a number one in July 1968 for Tommy James and the Shondells. This has been covered a few times since, but it has a huge guitar riff that's perfect for Quo.
7. MEMPHIS TENNESSEE
Another Chuck Berry Song. As Chuck is one of the greatest Rock and Roll songwriters, Quo wanted to do more than one of his, this song has a great story line and a great tune.
8. RAVE ON
An arrangement of the Buddy Holly song, thundering along, with a great Rossi Solo.
9. CRAWLING FROM THE WRECKAGE
Not quite so well known this.. but a minor hit for Dave Edmunds, and written by Graham Parker. Dave Edmunds has made so many great records and although Quo have already covered a few of his songs, this one just had to be done.
10. HOUND DOG
An early Elvis song and one of the most famous Rock and Roll songs of all time, given a totally new feel.
11. CLAUDETTE
There had to be at least one Everly's song, and this one fitted the bill, Rick and Francis often sit around in dressing rooms playing this one so it was an obvious choice. Written by Roy Orbison.
12. ROCK 'N ME
The Steve Miller classic...
13. ONCE BITTEN TWICE SHY
This was a single from Ian Hunter (of Mott The Hoople), another great Rock and Roll writer that Quo have always liked. Out of all his great songs, this one seemed the most suitable.
14. RUNAROUND SUE
Apart from "The Wanderer" this is probably the next best well known song from Dion, it was hit back in 1961.
15. GOOD GOLLY MISS MOLLY
The Little Richard song, also a much covered classic.
16. SWEET HOME CHICAGO
An uptempo blues shuffle, written by Robert Johnson, but modified and recorded by many others over the years.
17. FAMOUS IN THE LAST CENTURY (REPRISE)
Part two... and that's about all we have time for folks...
Happy Leech en Kijk plezier
