Fiona Joy Hawkins is of a new generation of New Age pianists who, through skill (both learned and "felt") is changing the attitude and vibe of the term "New Age" by marrying its atmospheric, naturalistic aura with the gentle sensibilities of smooth jazz and the exotic wonderment of World Music. Although Hawkins is not a member of the legendary Windham Hill stable, her talents easily align her with the best they offered, such as Liz Story, Jim Brickman, and George Winston.

LIVE AT THE Q is one of those tip-of-the-iceberg experiences that allows us to peer just a little bit into the world of sound, texture and emotion that Hawkins has to offer. Comprising two tracks from ANGEL ABOVE MY PIANO (2006), three from PORTRAIT OF A WATERFALL (2005), a whopping nine from the Will Ackerman-produced BLUE DREAM (2008), and new track "600 Years," LIVE AT THE Q is a musical expedition that is both of the mind and of the heart.

When you listen to the music of Fiona Joy Hawkins, you feel more than a collection of notes strung together from the mind of one person; you bring your own experience to the table - your hopes, dreams, desires, and even fears. Although the songs are mild and non-threatening, Hawkins allows for thought and wonder to seep between the notes for the listener to obtain from the songs anything he or she feels.

It is not music with a strict agenda of derivative poignancy; it is a soul-penetrating soundscape that entices the listener to engage it introspectively and bask in its luminescence. And as a live album, the effect speaks volumes to the seemingly magical ability of the artist.
