Ghost Boat (2006) part2 (final)

Ghostboat (2006) is a British TV film based on a novel by George E. Simpson and Neal R. Burger starring David Jason - a fantasy tale of His Majesty"s Submarine Scorpion reappearing 38 years after it was thought to have sank. The crew has disappeared, but the vessel is otherwise unchanged and has not aged in the intervening years. In the Cold War year 1981, a Royal Navy crew is given the mission of retracing the last days of the boat prior to its 1943 disappearance. A supernatural influence takes hold of vessel and most of the crew, and they find themselves fighting World War II enemies.

Review:
This was transmitted in two parts in England in 2006 and was one of the television highlights of the year. The basic plot is the re-appearance of a British submarine that was lost and sunk in World War 2, the only survivor is recruited by the admiralty to attempt to discoverwhat happened to the rest of the crew and how the submarine resurfaced. After boarding the sub the investigation team begin to take on characteristics of the 
original crew and their ultra secret mission, to destroy a top secret target in Russia and set sail to complete this task that was set in motion 65 years previously.

David Jason has proved on many occasions that he is a talented straight actor and not just known for comedy and I would go so far as to say that this is his best ever straight performance in a drama, he is sensational. David Jason himself suggested this be made into a drama after reading the novel that it is based upon and convinced a production company to make it and he was very surprised when they asked him to play the lead and what a great choice it was too.

In short this is a wonderful drama and well worth a look.
