Japanese percussion group, founded in 1981 in the community on the island of Sado, formed ten years earlier to study the Japanese national art of playing drums, "taiko". Kodo's debut took place the same in 1981 at the Berlin Festival, where they performed together with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra.
During the 80-90-ies Kodo toured with concerts, many countries of the world, recorded several soundtracks for films and in 1995 received a special prize of "The 37th Nihon Record Taisho". Kodo is not confined to traditional Japanese music, but also experimenting with combining it with other national art and modern music finds. In total, the group includes up to 60 people
