This album starts very slowly in terms of quality, but don't let that fool you - songwriting keeps getting better and better as the time progresses. In the end, you will be rewarded with one really strong symphonic and epic progressive power metal album, full of melodies and great instrumental solos.
Also, in the beginning it sounded like the singer could be a problem here, but even though Christopher Ripoll isn't the greatest power metal vocalist ever born, his singing should be at least satisfactory for most fans of the genre. The problem is actually he should have been higher in the mix - his voice often blends even with subtle symphonic orchestrations. Can't blame him for this though.
I can't compare Lotus with the band's previous effort which doesn't seem to have persuaded too many fans, but I believe it's much better. You can do no wrong if you give it a try based on my recommendation.
