Kolsch - 1977 [Kompakt] 2013 FLAC
KÖLSCH’s ‘1977’ album is much more than a generic ‘best of’ hack; yes it features his earlier material, but it’s also a showcase of some exciting new releases. You’re treated to tracks packed with emotive progression, energetic beats and electronic grooves that tap into your inner soul from this album of feel good electronica.
The grand organ chords and the progressive feel to ‘Goldfisch’ is the perfect opener for KÖLSCH’s debut album on KOMPAKT. It grabs you from the start and it doesn’t let go as it soon jumps into electro heavy ‘Opa’ – another track that grabs you, shakes you and makes you want to move. The strong personality of these tracks had me thinking this was going to be a heavy album, but this was soon dismissed as tracks ‘Der Alte’ and ‘All that matters’ bring an emotive feel to the album thanks to the piano riffs and soulful vocals of these two tracks.
KÖLSCH also brings a personal element to the album, naming the tracks with reference to his German childhood- OPA & OMA (German for “Grandfather” & “Grandmother”), DER ALTE (a classic German TV series) & SILBERPFEIL (a legendary German racing car). It’s subtle elements like these that add character to an album.
