The extensive network of the Appenzell Railways runs through three cantons and goes to St. Gallen, Altstätten, Herisau, Appenzell, Gossau und Wasserauen. All trains usually run at hourly intervals. No seat reservation possible. 

Discover the charming Appenzell region with its decorative farmhouses and its typical hilly landscape on a round-trip. For instance, leave St. Gallen to go to the city of Appenzell and then return via Urnäsch and Herisau. We also highly recommend stopping off in lovely Appenzell and taking a stroll through its Main Street (Hauptgasse). Should you have a bit more time on your hands, do not miss an excursion to the Säntis or any of the region?s other famous peaks: Hoher Kasten, Kronberg or Ebenalp. And don?t forget: the Swiss Pass, Swiss Flexi Pass, Swiss Youth Pass and Swiss Card will get you a 50% discount. 

For something special, leave Rorschach on Lake Constance with either the line Rorschach-Heiden or the line Rheineck-Walzenhausen train. This unique round-trip will give you lovely views onto Lake Constance, on the hills of Southern Germany, the Rhine delta, and the bay of Bregenz. From Rorschach, take the cogwheel train to Heiden, which leaves every half hour. This well-known health resort of yore lies on a sunny plateau in the charming Pre-Alpine Canton of Appenzell. From Heiden, take a Postbus (or walk) to Walzenhausen. Once there, take a romantic mountain-top train down to Rheineck. Then take the boat on the Old Rhine ?Alten Rhein? through a lovely nature. (50% discount for holders of a Swiss Pass, Swiss Flexi Pass, Swiss Youth Pass or Swiss Card). This trip is offered on a daily basis from May till September.
