Weerdeskundige Jack Hall waarschuwt met weinig succes voor de invloed die de opwarming van de aardbol zal hebben op het klimaat. Wanneer het noordelijk halfrond van de planeet daadwerkelijk het slachtoffer wordt van tornado's, overstromingen en gigantisch lage temperaturen wordt hij eindelijk serieus genomen. Terwijl het zuiden van Amerika in aller ijl wordt geëvacueerd, wordt de noorderlingen geadviseerd binnen te blijven, en op het beste te hopen.
