Er zijn slechts weinig bands die zichzelf keer op keer kunnen overtreffen, maar Neêrlands belangrijkste muzikale exportproduct blijft ons verbazen. 'Black Symphony' is alweer de 3e DVD met live opnames van gothic metal band Within Temptation en deze is in vele opzichten beter dan zijn voorgangers. De band heeft voor deze DVD alles uit de kast gehaald; ze stonden op het podium van Ahoy met het Metropole Orkest en verschillende gastmuzikanten, zetten een spectaculaire show neer en de DVD bevat vele extra's, zoals backstage materiaal, videoclips en een documentaire. De opnames zijn schitterend en het camerawerk en de montage prachtig. Het resultaat is zo mooi dat het niet eens echt opvalt dat zangeres Sharon den Adel tijdens de eerste 2 nummers nog behoorlijk zenuwachtig is - en daardoor niet altijd even zuiver klinkt. Gelukkig herstelt zij zich snel en de overige nummers van het ruim 2 uur (!) durende concert klinken zoals we van de band gewend zijn: super! (Sabina Verberk)
