On The Wing Tour
Pink Project
2004

How close can one get to Pink Floyd (one of) these days? It has been over ten years since the last tour and there are no signs of a reunion.
Is there life after Floyd? May be there is... Last saturday I went to see the 'Pink Project', a Dutch group that has been covering Pink Floyd for the past decade.
They were celebrating their tenth anniversary during the 'On the wing tour 2004', consisting of 6 shows. Truly an amazing musical experience. Pink Project was founded by Peter Chattelin, a die hard Floyd/Roger Waters fan, in 1994.
He had a dream, wanting to play the entire The Wall-album in front of a life audience. His dream came true in 1995, when 6 shows were sold out.
In 1998 came the follow up when Pink Project played the 'Dark side of the moon' in front of a 10.000 people audience.
Another 7 shows followed in 2002. Driving force behind the project is the musician's love for the music of Pink Floyd.
The Project costs so much money that the members have to invest lots of Euros in the project to get the show on the road.
Pink Project 2004 consists of 10 musicians.
The drummer, Ronald Kokshoorn, and keyboard player, Ebert Zwart, (both also involved in a Genesis project) are probably better performers than Wright and Mason, one of the backing vocalists has an incredible voice
(Great gig in the sky!), the saxplayer seems to be ready to join Pink Floyd for the next stadium tour (?) and the bass player (Chattelin) has a voice that is very close to that of Mr. Waters. True,
the guitar sound and voice of David Gilmour is impossible to immitate, but the guitarist (Danny Vromans) who played most of the solo's is a true craftsman. Beside that; the band has a great timing,
integrating the original samples and sound effects in the music. To complete the show: they used a quadrofonic sound system, a huge inflateble pig and 12 women in school uniforms performed
in 'Another brick in the wall part 2' Highlights of the 2,5 hour show were definitely: 'Welcome to the machine', 'Astronomy domine', 'Dogs' (can the real Floyd do it any better?),
'The great gig in the sky', 'In the flesh' and 'Comfortably numb'. And the crowd went wild
