One Way may never have really made it into the commercial big time, but it might surprise you to know that they are one of the top 125 U.S R&B singles acts of all time. Starting off as 'Al Hudson And The Soul Partners' they went on to have 20+ hit singles. This collection of 14 tracks is simply inadequate therefore to do the group justice but what you do get here is a great selection of their most popular songs. Three of the selections are actually one time lead singer Alicia Myers's solo outings ('I Want To Thank You', 'Appreciation' and 'You Get The Best From Me') but all three are of a high standard and in the style of the group anyhow.
'You Can Do It' (released as Al Hudson And The Soul Partners and featured here) is probably the bands best known number and is a dance classic of it's time. 'Cutie Pie' however hit larger in the U.S reaching no4 U.S R&B. The band usually split their LP's between funk and ballads and 'Lady You Are' was just about the biggest ballad they hit with. 'Mr Groove' is rather more vocoder funk (in the style of Zapp) and you will either love it or hate it. Personally, I couldn't accept a best of without 'Lets Talk About Sex' but for anyone looking to discover the 'One Way/Al Hudson' style of music this collection will do nicely.
