Post Description
Studio Album, released in 2000
KURGAN"S BANE is an American, Baltimore based hard rock band, consisting of the brothers Pete and Jeff Laramee (guitarist and drummer, respectively). Alternately powerful and gentle vocals, tasteful and facile guitar playing, and solid bass & drum work shine throughout. The role of the bass is very notorious, avoiding the monotony of some metal bands by melodic phrasing all across the neck. The sound is contemporary but the influences are similar to Swedish seventies psyche hard/rock/prog. If you are into RUSH and/or some IQ and early MARILLION with a harder edge to it, do give KURGAN"S BANE a chance.
Their music is melodic yet complex progressive rock with heavy guitar riffs. They have similarities to Heart, 80"s RUSH & SAGA. My favorite songs are the opening "Through The Camera", "Just Look At Me Now", "Warm Winter Nights", "Feudal Torniquet", the short instrumental "Nap In E Minor", "The Curtain And The Rose" and the closing "Regina". The musicianship is flawless. The female vocalist Lisa Francis has a strong voice, Pete Laramee are an amazing guitarist, Jeff Laremee are a highly technical drummer and Luis Nasser delivers a steady bass playing. My only criticism would be the flat "garage rock sound" of the recording. KURGAN"S BANE is not as good as RUSH, but with a better production their next album might be a real killer!
Voor de liefhebbers van Rush.
