Post Description

Faun is a German band formed in 2002 who play pagan folk, darkwave and medieval music. The originality of their music style is that they fall back to "old" instruments, and the singing is always the center of attention. The vocals are performed in a variety of languages, including German, Latin, Greek and Scandinavian languages. Their instruments include Celtic harp, Swedish nyckelharpa, hurdy gurdy, bagpipes, cittern, flutes and many others.

Renaissance album by Faun was released Dec 06, 2005 on the Noir label. They're German, and they're sincere in what they do -- which is make modern folk music. Renaissance music CDs They're so earnest that it's hard to make fun of them, even when so much of their music resembles an almost goth Enya with pop vocals (courtesy of two female singers). Renaissance songs And they certainly dive in wholeheartedly, not afraid to tackle something from 16th century Portugal or a Sephardic Jewish song in between their own material -- which attempts to conjure up an ancient atmosphere. Renaissance album Lyrically, they try too hard and achieve a kind of juvenile minstrelsy that masquerades as atmosphere. Renaissance CD music But at the same time it's hard not to feel at least a little sympathetic, as they're just so open in what they do. ~ Chris Nickson Faun: Oliver Sa Tyr (vocals, bouzouki, celtic harp, Jew's harp); Lisa Pawelke (vocals, hurdy-gurdy); Fiona Ruggeberg (vocals, whistle, bagpipe, recorder); Niel Mitra (synthesizer, sampler, sequencer); Rudiger Maul (darabukka, davul, tar, percussion).

“Iets kan zowel goed, slecht of geen van beiden zijn. Muziek is bijvoorbeeld goed voor iemand in een melancholische bui, slecht voor degene die rouwt en de dove maakt het niets uit.”

“A person does not hear sound only through the ears; he hears sound through every pore of his body.
It permeates the entire being, and according to its particular influence either slows or quickens the rhythm of the blood circulation; it either wakens or soothes the nervous system.
It arouses a person to greater passions or it calms him by bringing him peace. According to the sound and its influence a certain effect is produced.
Sound becomes visible in the form of radiance.
This shows that the same energy which goes into the form of sound before being visible is absorbed by the physical body.
In that way the physical body recuperates and becomes charged with new magnetism.”
