Earlier this month, we brought you a Tom Petty show from December 12, 1982 where he covered the legendary Kingsmen tune, Louie Louie.  Well, at this show, from December 31 1978, 35 years ago today (and the same night as our Hall & Oates post 4 hours ago), Petty breaks out another classic party song, Shout. Originally performed by the Isely Brothers in 1959, the song experienced a new wave of popularity in 1978 thanks to a version by Otis Day and The Knights that was featured in the movie National Lampoon's Animal House. Of course, Animal House starred John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd as The Blue Brothers, an act that started as a musical sketch on Saturday Night Live, evolved into a movie, and eventually took on a life of its own as the band released an album and even toured. In fact, while Petty was playing Santa Monica, the Blues Brothers were on stage a few hundred miles north at Wnterland in San Francisco, leading in for the Grateful Dead.
