THE OFFSHORE RADIO YEARS VOLUME 5
While many of the offshore stations aimed at the lucrative London market, Radio 270 broadcast successfully to Yorkshire and the midlands.
The ripples caused by the offshore radio revolution spread around the world and American businessmen financed Top 40 station Radio England and MOR station Britain Radio, after seeing the US financed Radio London make a huge impact. Radio England and Britain, didn’t follow London’s success and were replaced by Radio 355 and Dutch language Radio’s Dolfijn and then 227.The Offshore radio ripples also reached New Zealand, where Radio Hauraki was set up to break the state radio monopoly. Hauraki achieved what few other offshore radio stations did, being granted a licence to broadcast from land.
