Il Ritorno di Tobia

Ondanks haar grote succes in 1775 werd Il Ritorno di Tobia echter vrij snel vergeten en daar
kunnen de lengte van het werk (drie uur) en het bijbelse thema dat snel uit de mode
geraakte wel iets mee te maken hebben. De lengte en wat monotone afwisseling tussen aria
en recitatief maken deze Il Ritorno di Tobia minder afwisselend dan de twee grote, late
oratoria maar Haydns muziek maakt dat gelukkig ruimschoots goed.
