Progressive Metal, Progressive Rock | Tracks:12
This is one of the few truly unique prog-metal albums out there. Its opening is a beautiful, flute-and-piano led introduction which gives no indication of metal whatsoever. Haunting and melodic, supported by quiet bass like distant thunder, this opener segues into an equally beautiful vocal tune in which the guitarist shows off his musicianship on acoustic guitar. The next two pieces finally reveal some metal elements - the dual voices begin to get a little higher-pitched, the guitar gets much more aggressive. Nevertheless, some softer elements remain; there are some great classical guitar runs and symphonic-style keys. An instrumental interlude brings about imagery of imminent doom and leads into a nice flute-laden ballad. This makes up the first half of the album, and up until now it's one of the best damn prog-metal albums I've ever heard.
