Miss Marple goes with Lady Virginia Revel to a weekend party at country estate called Chimneys and ends up finding herself in the middle of an important diplomatic gathering. Count Ludwig of Austria is found dead after some of the guests clash over dinner. Miss Marple and Chief Inspector Finch find a coded message and the remains of a murdered servant and Miss Marple realises that the secret of Chimneys is much more sinister than she ever thought.
