Post Description
This is Country Music USA mid 60s style...complete with spangly suits, bouffant hairdos and toupees (thank you Hank Snow). But aside from the cornball trappings, there is neat country music here....before the Shania Twains of this world turned it into bland pop. Nashville greats abound....like Lefty Frizzell, Johnny Cash (joined by the Carter Family for some truly fine gospel), a young Waylon Jennings sans beard and cowboy hat singing one of his best numbers ("Anita You're Dreaming")and the late great Marty Robbins, in fine form, doing about 4 songs including "El Paso" and "Devil Woman". We also see him racing his beloved stock car on the track. Faron Young, Porter Wagoner, Connie Smith, Bill Anderson, Kitty Wells, the list goes on. About 38 numbers in all. Want more great Americana? The plot(?) has Doodles Weaver as Colonel Beedlebaum (his name when he was a member of the immortal Spike Jones Band) going to Nashville to find musical talent for a movie his boss is producing. He does a number of comedy routines reminiscent of his Spike Jones days. This is classic stuff.
