Dit is de info die ik op Usenet er bij geplaatst heb. I wel in het Engels, maar als dat een probleem is
vertaal ik het wel.....
When this album was released a reviewer of a big American magazine wrote
that he found it mediocre, but at the same it was the best sound he ever heard
on a vinyl LP. He said it was an example of what was possible with vinyls.
Today with 24/96 releases a big deal, but in 1985 it was. He could however
explain the reason why it sounded so bright and crystal clear.
The solution could be found in the liner notes : this was recorded with the
Ambisonics microphones and put on vinyl with UHJ encoding, giving it it's
excellent sound. UHJ encoding also had the advantage that when you had a
(rather expensive !) receiver with an UHJ button, it was decoded to 4 channels.
Unfortunately the first releases of this album on CD didn't contain the UHJ
encoding.
I was reading some old mails and saw a message from one of the guys who recorded
it and who is a big name in Ambisonics land. He told that the remastered Dutch
Collection still had the UHJ encoding. So I thought : if the Dutch one had it,
there is a chance the remsaters from the past years will have it too.
He also told there was one song which was recorded before his involvement and
doesn't have the UHJ encoding.
I ripped the CD and used the UHJ-AMB software to decode it and.....yesssssss !
Full real Ambisonics surround !!
What a treat to the ears ....marvellous.
I had to do song 5 with another method, but added it as song 10 put through the
UHJAMB software, so you can really hear the difference with the other songs.
I have put it on DTS CD with added Center and LFE , but I'm planning a DVDA
too in near future.
Enjoy this release !
