>Ferdinand Ries (1784 - 1838)
Ferdinand Ries was arguably the most talented of Beethoven's piano students, as well as an eminently qualified composer in his own right. Beethoven was the first to lend the cello sonata its classic generic form, and Ries continued directly in this line with his first two sonatas of 1810. This release presents the recording premieres of the Sonata No. 2, Op. 21, Sonata No. 3, Op. 125, and the Introduction and Russian Dance, Op. 113 on historical instruments.
