As a multi instrumentalist/ vocalist and songwriter Neal Morse has many faces as an artist.
In the 80-s he was struggeling to make it as a composer and wrote commercials, musicals, rock music and country songs. With Spocks Beard he got his succes but left the band in 2003
By that time he also released two solo albums and an album with christmas music.
As a respected artist he was a guestmember on different albums, with: Salim Hill, Ajalon, Ayreon, Alan Morse, Rodan Rudess, Al Stewart and Roine Stolt
Also he is one of the members of The Super Prog Band, Transatlantic. A busy man indeed.
Besides the many prog activities he is also releasing a series of Worship Albums. During his career he also recorded covers of his favorite artist and released those songs on the special editions and Limited Editions. With Yellow Matter Custard he released an album playing tribute with songs of The Beatles
If you become a member of Neal Morse' fanclub The Inner Circle you get free bi-monthly CD-s or DVD-s with his demo work.
Said this all, i realize that after my first Neal Morse purchase in 1995 (Spocks Beard-The Light) my collection with Neal Morse performing is over 80 albums.
You could say I'm a fan......
My last buy is this 3 CD Live album So many Roads with recordings of the 2008 LIFELINE tour in Europe (The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium).
13 songs and over 210 minutes, a Prog-Extravaganza with EPICS of the highest level.
Music on these 3 CD-s have a timespan of his work with Spock's Beard from 1995 till 2003 with classics
Walking On The Wind (from 1997-Beware of Darkness) and At The End Of The Day (from 2000-V)
Also his solo work from his last 5 studio albums with
Testimedley (medley from 2003-Testimony),
Author Of Confusion and Help Me (from 2004-ONE),
Question Mark Medley (medley from 2005 ?-album)
Lifeline, So Many Roads, Leviathan, (The Way Home (from 2008-Lifeline)
Stranger In Your Soul/Bridge Across Forever (From Transatlantic albums)
Although the studio albums are not recorded with this live-band i can conclude that this European Neal Morse Band is outstanding and perhaps even better as the studio performances of Neal and friends. The multiple themes by keyboard, guitar and vocals is quality of the highest order.
The band of Collin Leijenaar and friends make this album Best of the Year 2009. Neal wrote many many epics and therefore a musthave in every CD collection.
