De jonge schrijver Grover heeft maar één droom; hij wil met zijn vriendin Jane verhuizen naar New York. Maar als Jane in Praag wil gaan studeren, krijgt Grover van alle ellende geen pen meer op papier. Hij zoekt steun bij zijn vrienden, maar die weten niet echt wat ze moeten zeggen of doen. De een is verslaafd aan kruiswoordpuzzels, de ander durft niet te reizen. Uiteindelijk belanden de jongens aan de bar bij Chet in de hoop dat hij hen op het juiste pad zet. Maar ook Chet kan maar net zijn eigen leven aan.
