Dr. Hook is zo’n typische band die misschien niet direct een belletje doet rinkelen, maar waarvan iedereen wel een aantal hits kan meezingen. Niet zo gek ook, want tussen 1971 en 1983 scoorde de band niet minder dan 20 hits in de Billboard Hot 100, waarvan er 6 de top 10 haalden. Ook in Europa was de band immens populair.

Alle singles die Dr. Hook in die periode uitbracht, aangevuld met een aantal essentiële albumtracks zijn verzameld op de eerste 2 discs van deze ‘Dr. Hook Collected’. Zo hoor je bijvoorbeeld ‘Sylvia’s mother’, ‘Sharing the night together’, ‘When you’re in love with a beautiful woman’, ‘A little bit more’ en ‘Baby makes her blue jeans talk’. 

Op de derde disc zijn weer een aantal rarities verzameld, waarvan er velen voor het eerst op cd verschijnen en twee nummer zelfs nooit eerder beschikbaar waren. Uniek is ‘Sylvia’s father’, waarin halverwege de evergreen het verhaal plots switcht van moeder naar vader. Deze live-versie is opgenomen in Amsterdam in 1974.
