Post Description
Jim Savitt from New York City, brings a fresh new sound to the contemporary jazz scene. An accomplished guitarist and composer, he constantly impresses audiences with both his playing and his compositional skills.
Stylistically, Savitt's musical influences stem from both traditional and contemporary jazz, with a touch of hip-hop & rock. His improvisation and compositions have been described as "both fluid & melodic," combining lyrical phrasing and urban .
Savitt has written and recorded over thirty original instrumental compositions, and has recently completed his first self produced CD entitled "The Way Home". As an electronic musician, Savitt uses a MIDI guitar and sequencer to engineer the music that acts as his back-up when he is not performing with a full band. This use of digital technology allows Savitt to perform as a one man band and sound like a full ensemble. Jim has performed in numerous venues throughout the New York area ranging from cafés and restaurants to trade show events at large convention centers. Jim is also a main songwriter and guitarist for Blue Mile, an original pop/rock band that performs in the clubs of New York City.
With 20 years of experience in musical theory and performance, and an expertise in computer technology, Savitt constantly seeks out new venues to express his musicality. He was recently commissioned to compose music for Any Channel, an interactive entertainment company developing a video game for a multi-player CD-ROM machine. Mixing eerie sound effects and a pulse-pounding theme, Savitt's score has been incorporated into their alien infested combat-action game. In addition, his compositions are regularly featured by The Endless Advantage, Inc. a music service provider.
Jim studied at the Berklee School of Music and has a bachelor of science degree from Stevens Institute of Technology, where for two years he was the musical director of their 17 piece jazz band.
A New York City resident, Savitt regularly performs his contemporary jazz compositions in the New York metropolitan area.
We have a great New York City based smooth jazz guitarist named Jim Savitt who released his new CD titled "Hear & Now". This 12 song album features smooth jazz sax star David Mann (Special EFX, Tower Of Power, Chuck Loeb, etc.) and is released at the end of October 2001.
