Post Description

Jimsaku - Mega DB (1997) (Japanese kickass fusion)

Who the hell are JimSaku? I hear you ask.. Well... Japanese Fusion (J-Fusion) has 4 main bands (plus lots of lesser known ones) which are Fragile, Casiopea, Dimension and T-Square (aka The Square). Each of these bands has a similar lineup, common amongst J-Fusion bands, that comprises five in total but with a core of three musicians, usually Keys, Sax and Guitar. The core band then grab some friends to cover on Bass and Drums, usually session musicians and always the best available. In this case JimSaku were the Bass and Drums for Casiopea.

JimSaku are:
Akira Jimbo: (Jim....) Drums and Percussion
Tetsuo Sakurai: (...Saku) Basses and Programming

Next question: What should I expect?

Fast, Inventive, Unusual, Intense, Strange, Brilliant, Different, Breathtaking, Speaker Busting, Jaw Dropping... Jazz Drum & Bass (hence the "db" in the title... Mega means exactly that). If you like Prog, Rock, Jazz, Drum & Bass, Fusion, Dance (pushing the envelope a bit there or anything that will (and I mean WILL) broaden your musical experience then you owe it to yourself to download this. If you hate your neighbors then you doubly owe it to yourself.

My opinion: Neal Piert should hang up his sticks and even the late, great Jaco (RIP) would have had a battle on his hands. Summer, open car, country lanes and this on full blast... the cows love it

Note: The first 4 tracks were written by Tetsuo Sakurai, the bassist, and utilise some electronic wizardry, though not much. The first 2 also have a guest in the form of Satoru Shionoya (Four of a Kind) on Electric Piano. The last 4 were written by Akira Jimbo, the drummer, and contain no sequencers or loops whatsoever, the only electronics being a trigger system on the drum kit. The last 4 are, in my opinion the better of them all but that is probably because Jimbo has written and released a few albums of his own and they are all smooth jazz oriented... and it shows. Don't let that put you off though, this is definately not smooth jazz. Track 3 is probably my favourite, Maki Kanzakis voice and lyrics are just too much to ignore :D (try reading the lyrics on the insert without smiling ;) ).The last track is the sort of pure inventive prog (similar feel as ELP in parts) that could leave wet patches in fans jeans O:-. If you have extended bass available to you (subwoofer, serious monitors etc...) then tracks 6, 7 and 8 will lose you neighbors
